One Night in the Spa by Kathy Lyons‏

Kathy Lyons writes light, funny, sexy stories for Harlequin Blaze. She loves the faster pace of category books and that her humor can shine through.

She leaves the dark, tortured love stories to her alter ego, Jade Lee.

What starts out as a simple massage treatment for spa manager David’s best friend Kim, turns into a night of seduction and sexual discovery.

Always relegated to the friend zone, David is determined to show Kim what she’s been missing…one erogenous zone at a time. Sure, their friendship is on the line. And sure, David’s hiding a motive larger than either him or Kim. But the second his hands touch her smooth skin, he just doesn’t care anymore.

Kim’s been so focused on the loss of her sports career that she’s had no time for romance or sex. But her response to David can’t be denied. Is it just that her body’s been missing out, or could her heart be involved too?

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
Two things – first, yes, I was a racquetball pro who had to suddenly give up the sport (two weeks after going pro) because of an injury. After years of constant physical training, suddenly I had all this time and energy to burn. Yes…I had a kind of sexual renaissance. So that part of the story was from personal experience, though written a bit more extreme than what I experienced. Here’s a recent picture of me playing racquetball. This is AFTER I healed and aged into a goofy middle-aged woman!

Second, you guessed it, I had a facial. It was a very professional facial with none of the antics I describe, but my imagination took hold and…well, this novella is the result!

Q) How long did it take you to write?
One week. Inspiration hit, and bam. I had to write it. Though the revisions took three weeks as I honed and revised to what you have now.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
That burst of YES! HERE’S THE STORY! I love, love, love that moment. I’m never quite sure when it will hit. This time it was at the beginning, but sometimes it hits later in the writing process. Whenever I get blinded by it, it’s always a beautiful miracle.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
The honing and fixing and revising. Bleh. I try to ride that burst of fiery inspiration as long as I can, but eventually it tapers off. Eventually, I have to look at the story mechanically and make it better. That’s the WORK part of writing.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
ONE day? Well, to be honest, one day isn’t long enough to seriously affect the world. Not unless I was Superman or something. And maybe not even then. SO…if it’s only for one day, then I’ll pick someone who is super, amazingly rich. I know, I know, I should pick someone interesting, but honestly—I like my life. I love writing my books (well most of the time) and I like my husband and kids. So, I want a day’s spa vacation followed up by shopping and a fabulous meal. To do it right, I’d need nothing more than a $100,000. (I do like jewelry shopping, you know!)

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Frozen, ready-to-eat Paleo meals. My daughter convinced me to try the Paleo diet. It’s a good diet for weight loss and general health modeled on what a person in the paleolithic period would eat. (Did I spell that right?) Meats, vegetables, few fruits. No processed carbs at all. Anyway, I bought a bunch of them before Christmas, but there they sit in my freezer waiting for when I want to give up grains. (I know, I was supposed to say fridge, but honestly, I’m too afraid to look. I’ve been travelling all month and who knows what my husband has left back there from while I was gone!)

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
I’m hoping to do more of the Dream Nights series. Dream Nights with the CEO by Kathy Lyons came out in May, and the next two are in the works. Hopefully releasing soon from Entangled Publishing in the Brazen line. I’ll also be doing more regency era historicals as Jade Lee. What the Bride Wore is out now. What the Groom Wants is slotted for Feb 2014!
