Multi-published in both erotic and historical romance, A.S. has 5 books currently available and three more under contract with Ellora’s Cave Publishing.

Originally from New York, she grew up in New Jersey, and now lives in the East Texas with her real life hero, her wonderful husband. When not reading or writing she enjoys cooking, travel, history, and puttering in her garden.

Telepathic bounty hunter Kane has one rule—never get involved with a fugitive.

It’s a simple assignment with good money at the end. Picking Lena up is no problem. Protecting her when her ex-husband, mercenaries and another bounty hunter threaten her turns into the fight of their lives.

Together, the Stones of Adeline and Lena are powerful magic. She never considered the complication of the sexy bounty hunter and her undeniable desire for him. Their paranormal bond will need to be strong if they’re to survive together.

Ellora’s Cave
BN

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
A) My publisher, Ellora’s Cave “called” for books about bounty hunters. It didn’t take long for ideas for Kane’s Bounty to start bubbling in my head.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
A) It took about six weeks to write the first draft.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
A) Wow! Good question. I love everything about the writing process but I think that “the moment of recognition” is my favorite thing. You’re probably wondering what the heck I’m talking about. The moment of recognition is what I call the instant when something I see, hear, taste or read pops into my head as a scene in a story. It can be something innocent like a “call” for entries that says “bounty hunter” and in a flash a bar scene with Kane watching Lena is instantly played out in my mind. Sometimes it’s a dream and I have no idea what it means. Then a few weeks later, for no discernible reason, that dream evolves into a plot. It always happens suddenly and I love that unique moment when I say, “I’ve got it!”

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
A) I don’t like self-editing very much. I like notes from critique partners and editors, but I find the process of self-editing very tedious.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
A) Helen Mirren. Because I think she’s stunning at any age and I hope to grow up to be her.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
A) I’ll bet I’ have some duck sauce that’s pushing the one year mark. LOL

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
A) I’m really excited to report that I have three books in the works at this moment. Revving up the Holidays is a contemporary holiday novella that will be released November 22, 2013.

Alaskan Exposure is a cruise ship romance and should be out before the end of this year. It’s super-hot and I think you’ll love it.

Wishing Game will be out for the Spring of 2014 and is my second historical book.

Thanks very much for having me here today. I had a great time.

Women of War by Lisa Beth Darling‏

I've been married for the last 27 years to my wonderful husband and incredibly talented musician & rockin' DJ, Roy. We live in my hometown of New London, CT where we have raised two beautiful daughters to adulthood.

My writing career began in junior high, around the 7th grade. A fact that my fellow students adored but often got me called down to the Guidance Counselor's Office to discuss the adult nature of my early stories. While the experience was never pleasant, I was not deterred by the counselors' worries I was spurred onward by them, as well as by my teachers, and my classmates, I continued to hone my craft throughout those formative years.

Through my full-length novels and series I bring conflict, passion, love, and suspense to unique couples--how about a Greek God and a Fae, a retiring military man and an aging widowed hippie, a famous writer/director and a lonely hitch-hiker, or a b-grade actor and a very lucky first-time author? Since I'm never one to shy away from the less pleasant things in life, indeed I believe that it is in the Darkness where Character is created, determined, and defined, my heroes and heroines have their love tested by demons from within and without.

To date, I have penned some 14 novels and 30+ short stories. All of my books and stories are filled with steamy sex, hot passion, dark intrigue, and nail biting suspense. ALL of my works are intended for a Mature Audience Only this includes most of my non-fiction books. My books are for those who like their reading on the gritty side. They are not intended for the faint of heart or those who enjoy a sweet read.

Also, being a Pagan (which is helpful when I write about the Ancient Gods!) I've penned a few useful guides for Ritual Sex/Love Magick and for those wanting to start out exploring Magickal Herbalism.

Venture on a Mystical Journey through Time and Secrets Past

Book #5 in the OF WAR Series spans four generations of women in Alena's family from her great-grandmother, Shar Draiocht the last known Queen of the Dark Kingdom to her tortured daughter Morrowind, to Maven Alena's free-spirited mother and through the lonely life of Alena MacLeod ending where "The Heart of War" begins with the night Alena washes up on Ares' shore. With intensity, lust, fear, and strength these Women of War make their way in the world revealing the hidden truths of the past and Ares true connection to his beloved Wife, Alena.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
“Women of War” is the 5th installment in the OF WAR Series. It tells the tale of the family history of the series’ heroin, Alena MacLeod. Throughout the series there are nods to several of the women in her family and it was time to tell the full story.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
This novella didn’t take very long as it actually evolved out of “Child of War-Rising Son” the preceding story. I found myself struggling with a few chapters and doing everything I could to sort of just throw information into it. It wasn’t coming out well. A friend of mine who proofreads my stories very gently ventured the idea that “Rising Son” was finished. I was actually on to another novel and that was why I was having so much trouble. I tell you, if she didn’t live in Texas and I in Connecticut I would have given her such a big wet sloppy kiss! It was as though the Gods spoke to me through her. I finished off “Rising Son” and happily went about writing “Women of War” in a few short months.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
I love creating the worlds the Muse gives me. I adore flying through The Zone without a single care in the world when the writing is going hot and heavy.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Self-doubt. I am my own worst critic and my own worst enemy. I always have this nagging little voice in the back of my head telling me how much I suck and I should just give up. It’s very depressing and, unfortunately, that little voice wins out more often than it should and there are many days where I just don’t write anything at all because I’m paralyzed by my own self.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
When I was younger I used to clamor for Fame and Fortune but now I’m older and quite a bit wiser. You can keep it. I’m happy being me. But, just for fun, if I could be anyone for a day I’d like to step into Stephen King’s shoes just to see how he does it. I’d like to poke around in his head for a while too. J

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
I’m a pretty sure that it’s a bottle of hot sauce. I won’t even venture a guess as to how many Christmases ago I received it as a gift!

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
“Kingdoms of War” the OF WAR Series Finale will release next spring and it should be quite explosive.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
A) Well, I was reading a lot of Michael Connolly’s work last year, so I think the suspense in his Harry Bosch police procedural thrillers inspired me to start a M/M erotic romance mystery series.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
Book 1 “To Serve and Protect” was the stepping store and thus the hardest to write. It took me a few months to complete the initial draft. Book 2 “Covet Thy Neighbor” took less time.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
A) I can do it in the comfort of my home, in my cozy slippers, my worn-down jeans and baggy t-shirts, and not care, because no one sees me, except me. J

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
A) Getting out there and spreading the word about my books. Sometimes it feels like I’m a salesman, which isn’t in my nature. J

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
A) Hmm, tough question. To tell you the truth I wouldn’t want to be a famous person. Their lives are way too complicated. They can’t even step out for a cup of coffee at a local cafĂ© without paparazzi tailing them. I wouldn’t last a minute let alone a day in their shoes.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
A) A year old bottle of aloe vera juice I bought last year at a health food store and it still hasn’t passed the expiry date. It’s great for minor skin irritations and burns.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
A) Other stories in the “Sexy Men of Mystery” series. I want to further expose the vampire and vampire slayer world I introduced to readers. There’s also a mystery in Book 3 “A Witness’s Submission” I alluded to, about blood melding and telepathy, that I delve deeper into in the story I’m working on at the moment.

You’ll also see minor and major past characters resurface in future stories. They’ll help further uncover this mysterious paranormal world to the reader.

I’m also working on a fantasy paranormal M/M erotic romance series “Nectar of the Gods”, which involves sex, submission, werewolves, and gods. Definitely a highly volatile mix.

The House by Sebastiana Randone‏

Sebastiana Randone lives in Melbourne, Australia, and is from a dance background.

From an early age, Sebastiana developed a passion for reading, and from that moment has never been without a book.

The desire to write ‘one day’ had been pursuing for a long while. Finally that goal was realized with the debut release of “The House”; an adult fairy tale set in the Regency era.

Sebastiana is presently writing her second book; a paranormal romance novel based in New York late 1980’s.

The House is the tale of a woman, who is so absorbed with historical novels that her own reality ceases to offer any hope of romance and beauty.

One day this dreamy idealist finds herself in a mysterious forest. How she arrived there is unknown. She encounters a ramshackle house, wherein magical rooms that transport to parallel worlds lay in wait. She is transported to historical England, where she interacts with a collection of character's whose dysfunctional lives become apparent immediately.

The first tribulation involves a nefarious lord, an archetypal embodiment of the monstrous creatures that often haunt fairy tales. The ramification of this confrontation sets the tone for the narrative.

Before long, the folly of disdaining her mundane reality is realized, and she desires desperately to return to her former predictable life.

A hidden portal finally enables escape from the austere Georgian dwelling. She is spirited back to the enigmatic house, where a journey to Regency London ensues. A large cast of eccentric identities present themselves.

One day a handsome, despondent poet arrives, following a period in Florence. His introduction to the time traveler offers promise of restoration and love. But upon the face of it, and much to his chagrin, this union cannot be consummated. There are a few more obstacles ahead before her destiny in this strange adventure is made apparent. In the end a past life connection starts to reveal itself. And like all good fairy tales, the ending is pleasing, even though the means of getting there are dark and at times, sinister.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
My love of fantasy, old world settings and fascination with mystical themes.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
3 years

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Sends me on a journey and is a great mental and emotional release.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
My indecisiveness

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Anais Nin – Paris in the 1920’s would have been simply perfect. She was dancer as well as a writer, and one day, particularly night, socializing with her large group of diverse and learned friends would have been delightful.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Ice (not the drug!) as old as the fridge which is over 2 years.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
Working on a paranormal romance set in New York during the late1980’s. The ghosts of a disgruntled wife and an embittered show girl mother exact their revenge on a ponzi scheme wall street investor and a contemporary dancer, who through unusual circumstances, fall in love.

Cassie Scot: ParaNormal Detective by Christine Amsden‏

Award-winning author Christine Amsden has written stories since she was eight, always with a touch of the strange or unusual. She became a “serious” writer in 2003, after attending a boot camp with Orson Scott Card. She finished Touch of Fate shortly afterward, then penned The Immortality Virus, which won two awards.

Christine Amsden has been writing science fiction and fantasy for as long as she can remember. She loves to write and it is her dream that others will be inspired by this love and by her stories. Speculative fiction is fun, magical, and imaginative but great speculative fiction is about real people defining themselves through extraordinary situations. Christine writes primarily about people and it is in this way that she strives to make science fiction and fantasy meaningful for everyone.

At the age of 16, Christine was diagnosed with Stargardt’s Disease, a condition that effects the retina and causes a loss of central vision. She is now legally blind, but has not let this slow her down or get in the way of her dreams. (You can learn more here.)

In addition to writing, Christine teaches workshops on writing at Savvy Authors. She also does some freelance editing work.

Christine currently lives in the Kansas City area with her husband, Austin, who has been her biggest fan and the key to her success. They have two beautiful children, Drake and Celeste.

Cassie Scot is the ungifted daughter of powerful sorcerers, born between worlds but belonging to neither. At 21, all she wants is to find a place for herself, but earning a living as a private investigator in the shadow of her family's reputation isn't easy. When she is pulled into a paranormal investigation, and tempted by a powerful and handsome sorcerer, she will have to decide where she truly belongs.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
Cassie herself inspired me to write this book. She was someone whose story wasn’t being told – that of the powerless person in a world of magic. It’s a disability of sorts, one that affects her deeply though she tries to play it off. Yet she has value. Fantasy sometimes narrowly defines heroes as the biggest and the strongest, the one with the destiny to fulfill, but normal people can make a difference. That was important to me. This is not the story of someone who comes into power, it is the story of someone who discovers there is more than one kind of power.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
The first draft spilled out in about 2 months. Revisions and all the rest took a few more. It was actually pretty quick, or would have been if I hadn't decided to do another revision after I finished drafting the entire series.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Forging an emotional connection with the characters. It's my favorite thing about reading, too. Sometimes, though, if you want to do something right you have to do it yourself!

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Copy editing. Tedious work. And somehow I never seem to catch everything.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
I'd be one of The Doctor's companions because that's an awesome show and I bet it would be fun to film, too.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Probably one of my bottles of salad dressing, although none of them would be beyond the expiration date. I'm into cooking from scratch and that's hard to do in a yucky kitchen. I won't pretend my fridge is immaculate, but I take everything out and thoroughly clean it about every 2-3 months.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
Secrets and Lies (Cassie Scot #2) will be out in November. Check out my website for more information on that one. Mind Games (Cassie Scot #3) and Dreamer (Cassie Scot #4) are under contract and scheduled for release in 2014. After that... a couple of characters demanded spin-offs so I'm working on those right now!

Thank you so much for having me here. It was a pleasure.

When Marlie agrees to attend a cadaver ball at Vanderbilt Medical School, she did not expect to actually see any cadavers. Or, that a strange apparition would issue her a chilling message.

Despite the cadaver's warning, Marlie is married a year later to Tennessee State Senator, Daniel Cannon, and living in a plantation-style mansion with two step-sons. Add to the mix her growing suspicion that something is amiss with the death of Daniel’s first wife, Gentry, and newlywed Marlie is definitely in over her pretty Yankee head.

What begins as an innocent inquiry into her new husband’s clouded past ends with Marlie in the midst of a dangerous conspiracy.

A modern twist on the classic Gothic romance novels of Rebecca and Jane Eyre, Replacing Gentry follows Marlie’s precarious journey as she learns the truth about the man she married.

Amazon
BN

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
The inspiration for Replacing Gentry was ignited by a question my daughter asked regarding spirits. The paranormal elements I’d originally intended for this text were eventually edited out but still, the plot originated with her inquiry. Then one of my favorite books is Rebecca. I decided to blend my story with DuMaurier’s, make it modern and Southern, and voila, Replacing Gentry was born.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
This one took me about eighteen months. I had three books released the same year I was trying to write this one and I kept getting distracted. On average, I’d say it takes me about three to four months of steady work to complete a novel.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
I love it when the plot and/or words just seem to flow effortlessly as if being sent from a special place I have yet to discover. It truly feels like my own little miracle.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
I don’t enjoy the business end of writing. I don’t like stressing over sales and bad reviews or the way publishers/agents want to niche me—that in order to make money, and a name for myself, I have to stick to one genre. I simply love to write and I want to create as many different types of stories as my brain can come up with.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Um? I don’t know, really. I don’t think I want to be famous. And if I did, it would be sort of disappointing to only be famous for one day. But then, I guess that’s how fame goes these days. Here one day, gone the next.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Generally, I’m pretty good about cleaning out my fridge but sometimes things slip by me. I just gave the contents a quick sweep and found a small tub of sour cream that has most likely been in there since last spring. I don’t like sour cream so the only time I buy it is when I’m making sugar cookies. And the last time I baked sugar cookies was at Easter.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
Currently, I’m working with five other authors on a series—A Ripple Effect Romance. All six of the books are connected by one character helping out another from the book that follows. Mine is about a young woman who dreams of fame, but hasn’t much luck landing a starring role. Then she’s offered a spot as one of the hosts of a home improvement reality show akin to Love It or List It. And despite the fact she has no design training, has never laid a hand on a power tool, she feels confident her destiny is finally within reach. After all, isn’t that why they call it acting? It’s more of a chick-lit/romance. Nothing creepy or suspenseful as is the case with Replacing Gentry.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
The original idea was forced out of me by a crafty instructor back in 1993. I took a creative writing class where we had to brainstorm a novel based on a genre we didn’t usually read. Mine was mysteries. I hadn’t picked up a mystery since Nancy Drew’s “The Clue of the Dancing Puppet” as a young girl. Funny, once I finished the exercise with a main character, a murder and an inherited Scottish castle – I never let go of it. I’d work at it a little, then put it back in a drawer. Yet it was giving myself the gift of attending a writers conference through Abroad Writers Conferences to a castle in England in November, 2012, that blasted this story into completion. I maxed out my credit cards and spent a week in the English countryside, pretending it was Scotland madly researching details.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
Technically over twenty years, it’s hard to believe! Now I had nonfiction books published, a couple romantic comedies self-published and over a dozen ghostwriting projects done during this time. But when I got back from England, it took less than four months to flesh out and finish the 72,000 words with surprise characters, twists I didn’t know about and more.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Dialogue. Many times I will have whole chapters and scenes written only in dialogue first. I love how my characters interact and sass each other. The thrill of a good argument or the tenderness of understanding blooms through my dialogue. Then I go back and fill in the what, where, when portion of it.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
The third or fourth read-through for editing and tweaking is tough for me. This is where it becomes grueling. Making sure I show, don’t tell – avoiding passive voice. Have I left someone behind? Did I answer questions? Do the chapters end leaving the reader wanting more? It’s a necessary evil.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Oh, I love this – I’d want to be Katharine Hepburn! The woman epitomized an independent, self-confident woman. To be her for a day and have access to her mind, her strengths, her foibles would be delicious. What I could learn and experience in just twenty-four hours would be worth a life-time to me.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Hmm, it would be one of the salad dressing in the door. I love salads and go through phases of flavors. So it’s probably the half-empty bottles of French or Catalina, maybe an odd Italian-plus mixture I’ll never finish because I’ve moved on. The oldest is easily a year or more old.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
I’m currently working on a sequel to “Her Ghost Wears Kilts.” The characters have much more adventure ahead of them and another murder or two to solve. I also have a work in progress that takes place in the mid-Seventies of a widowed mother and her young daughter titled “Twinkies and Tranquilizers.” I would like to help fill the void left by Nora Ephron’s death with my own romantic comedies and slanted humor.

Returned by Keeley Smith‏

I've always loved reading, it is a common known fact that I pretty much demolish a book a day. Expensive hobby, but a great one! I've dabbled with writing since the day I could actually write. So, it was only fitting that I had my first book published when I was 15.

If I'm not writing you would generally find me reading, creating jewellery, trawling social networking sites and listening to music. I will pretty much listen to any kind of music but I have two favourites, country music which has been with me since I was a little toddler and I also love to listen to movie scores, especially when I'm writing!

I currently live in Yorkshire with my husband.

The only thing they agree on is the sultry heat between them

Nothing’s more important to Paige Ellerbee than her struggling bakery, Sweet Bee’s. When Lane Anderson, the temporary new doctor hot enough to rival McDreamy, moves in next door, though, she’s sure things are looking up. Until he threatens her business in their first conversation.

Lane just wants to practice medicine responsibly—not argue with the flighty bakery owner next door. But when he finds himself traveling down to the Caribbean to play guitar for Paige’s best friend’s wedding, suddenly the sight of the blonde in a bikini eclipses the fact they can’t agree on anything. And as their vacation romance grows, his reservations about starting something after getting burned by love are washed away like sand on the beach.

But once Paige and Lane land back home, will these polar opposites be able to forgive their feud and find lasting love?

What inspired you to write this story?
I’m a total sucker for fairy-tale romances, especially since they start out a little rocky. Tempted in the Tropics is an enemies-to-lovers story that takes a feuding sassy bakery owner and an uptight doctor, puts them in paradise, and dares them not to fall for one another.

Before I worked in the pharma industry, I worked for Sandals and Beaches Resorts, and I traveled throughout the Caribbean. My favorite island was lush St. Lucia with its mountains, rainforests, and exotic black-sand beaches. What better place to see if the steamy heat between two opposites could fizzle an ongoing feud?

I guess you could say I had anti-inspiration for the swoony Dr. Lane Anderson who’s the hero of the story. I met so many doctors when I worked in pharma, yet none were as hot as Lane with his buff body, dark hair, green eyes, and twin dimples. (Sorry, docs!) But I did use some of the doctors’ personality traits to bring Lane to life. (Hint: They could be a little uptight!) If anyone knows where I can find a doctor like Lane, please leave a comment so I can make an appointment! ;)

How long did it take you to write?
It took me a couple of months to write the first draft, then another month to revise and polish.

What is your favorite thing about writing?
I love getting excited by a story idea, getting to know the characters, and plotting their stories.

What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Sitting so much. Fortunately, my husband recently gave me a treadmill desk for my birthday. It has been such an awesome addition to my office. I no longer have to adhere to the common advice for writers—butt in chair. J Now I can walk while I write and I feel so much better!

If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Ooooh, there are so many fun options here. But I think I’d be Adele because I love her voice, and wonder what it would be like to sing so beautifully. I’d definitely sing all day long if I were her for one day!

What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Pink-foil-wrapped heart-shaped Swiss chocolates that I got when I was in Switzerland in May, 2012. I can’t bring myself to eat the last of them!

What can readers expect from you in the future?
I’m working on the third book in my Suddenly Smitten sweet-and-sassy romance series that began with The Practice Proposal and Tempted in the Tropics. It’s scheduled for release in January, and will feature the irresistible Caribbean resort tycoon Trent Hawthorne whose grandmother is the matriarch of Maple Creek, the small town where the series is set. Perhaps the girl for him is his grandmother’s personal assistant, Cynthia, a rebellious preacher’s daughter who prefers the nickname “Cyn.”

I’m also working on my second romantic thriller, A Shot of Red, which releases in April 2014.

The Secrets to Getting Your Romance Novel Published (Series)

Kentucky belle Seraphina Jones craves a dashing stranger worth kissing. When she spies her handsome, half-naked hired hand at the riverbank, she thinks her dreams of romance have come true. But this Texican is wanted for murder.

Jesse Quaid can't let Sera's sweet kisses distract him from rendezvousing with Cass, a childhood friend, to clear his name of a crime he didn't commit. But then a case of mistaken identity turns Cass into Jesse's deadliest rival for Sera's heart.

Now, Sera must find a way to end the feud before the man she loves is lost forever.

Velvet Lies:
Book 1: SCOUNDREL FOR HIRE
Book 2: HIS WICKED DREAM
Book 3: SEDUCED BY AN ANGEL
Book 4: DEVIL IN TEXAS (Available 2014)

1) What inspired you to write this story?
Although SEDUCED BY AN ANGEL is a Western Historical Romance, the story has a paranormal twist. I got the idea for the character of Sera, the heroine, when I went to a rural antique store, where I met a psychic.

This psychic was wandering from desk, to armoire, to fire screen, “touching” the furniture and reporting the various scenes that she psychically observed through the furniture (weddings, school classes, Christmas parties, etc.)

The psychic explained that she was learning to fine-tune her gift of “psychometry.” When she touched man-made objects, she could see their owners “through time” and peek into their lives. I thought, “Oh my gosh, I HAVE to write a story about that!”

So in SEDUCED BY AN ANGEL, outlaw Jesse Quaid (who is part Cherokee,) has a dream from Great Spirit that Sera can help clear his name of murder. Jesse can't possibly imagine how a 19-year-old preacher's daughter can help him, until he learns that Sera has visions about the future and the past.

2.) How long did it take you to write?
SEDUCED BY AN ANGEL was 13 years in the making!

When SCOUNDREL FOR HIRE and HIS WICKED DREAM were released in paperback (1999 and 2000, respectively), Sera was a minor character – the sister of each hero. I’d always intended to write Sera's story, but you know what they say: stuff happens!

In May 2012, my ePublisher, ePublishing Works, asked me to write Sera's story in anticipation of releasing SCOUNDREL FOR HIRE and HIS WICKED DREAM for the first time as ebooks.

Sera’s love triangle is the other reason I chose to publish directly to ebook. Paperback Romance publishers are squeamish about letting authors write Love Triangles in which the heroine is torn between two strong, charismatic males – unless the author makes one of those men the villain or kills him off.

I can’t tell you how I resolved this dilemma in SEDUCED BY AN ANGEL. But I can tell you that Cass’s story, DEVIL IN TEXAS, is in the works!

3.) What is your favorite thing about writing?
I love when a character opens his or her mouth and something funny comes out. You can’t plan humor; it happens organically. For example, here’s a snippet of Sera, talking to her “birthday present:”

"The problem with the town of Blue Thunder," Seraphina Jones confided to her new best friend, "is that it's so beastly boring."

Tempest snorted, tossing her head against Sera's tight grip on the reins. Sera imagined that the filly was nodding in agreement.

"Last month, a black bear wandered down from the mountain to run amok in the residential district. The Trumpeter ran headlines about that bear trampling clotheslines. Isn't that ridiculous? A savaged pair of bloomers might have been newsworthy. But a muddy quilt?" Sera blew a curl off her forehead. "I'm living in Prude Town!"

4.) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Waiting up to 6 months to get paid.

5.) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be?
I’d love to have the creative vision of Walt Disney, the presence and sophistication of Katharine Hepburn, and the business success of George Lucas.

6.) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Well . . . considering that I’ve been on the Ideal Protein diet since January, there is VERY LITTLE in my refrigerator! I think there may be a smidge of Dijon left in the mustard jar (wine’s not allowed on my diet.) My kitten, Princess Koko Kono, remains optimistic that someday, I shall open the fridge door and a whole shelf full of salmon will slide out – slathered in cheese. Koko lives for cheddar (when she’s not eating rosebuds.)

7.) What can readers expect from you in the future?
Devil in Texas (Book 4, Velvet Lies), featuring Cass, “the other man” in Sera’s love triangle with Jesse. For a sneak peek of Cass’s story, visit: http://ebookdiscovery.com.p8.hostingprod.com/AdrienneDeWolfe.html

Divine Destiny by JoAnna Grace‏

JoAnna Grace lives in a world of alpha males and strong females where true love conquers all—at least in her mind!

From the time she started holding a crayon she began to create magical worlds. Her first book was a series of pictures about a puppy princess. The story changed each time she told it, but there was always a happy ending! Her first written story was about girls who changed into tigers.

Hmmm… Guess some concepts stick around even into adulthood. Now those stories have become a bit more complex!

JoAnna’s tales are spun at her home in East Texas where she lives with her husband, three kids, a couple dogs and a few fish. When not hiding behind the computer screen you can find her camping, boating, and shopping. She is active in community ministry where she hopes to pass on the blessings she’s been given.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
The story stemmed from a nightmare of sorts. That’s when I met Ryse, the hero. From there I created the world he lived in and a woman strong enough to fall in love with him. I’ve always been a writer at heart. I would come home from other j-o-b-s over the years and spend my nights unwinding by hammering out stories.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
Divine Destiny has been around for a couple years. I wrote it in about six months. Put it down for a while, picked it up, changed it, put it down, picked it up again, tried to submit to agents, got rejections, got pregnant and hormonal so I put it down again, had my son, found inspiration to make it happen, revamped it again and FINALLY felt like it was ready to show the world. All the while I was writing other things that will also be published!

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Having that ‘holy @#$#@’ moment when a character surprises me with their course of actions. I love it when they reveal themselves and I get to discover something new about them. That’s why it’s difficult for me to plot and plan too heavily. The characters shock me.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Synopsis. They are evil and I hate them. LOL. (I have a propensity for six-digit word count on first drafts and you want me to cut it off at two or three pages? Ha!)

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Nalini Singh. She is my favorite author and I would love to know what it feels like to sell as many books as she has! I’ve had the pleasure of meeting her and she is fabulous! Or possibly Hugh Jackman’s wife… She’s not famous, but you get my point.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Oh dear God! It’s a science experiment by this point. Exhibit A with green funk growing on it!

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
Global take over. Just kidding. I have a shapeshifter series that is in the pipeline. I have a couple contemporaries that are waiting their turn. The Divine Chronicles will continue to grow. And there are even a few YA stories in my bag of tricks. I’m like Mary Poppins, you never know what I’ll pull out of there!

Thanks so much for inviting me over! I’m glad to have the chance to visit with you. I hope your followers enjoy Divine Destiny. Please give me a shout and let me know.

Editing-mania

As some of you know, not only am I a writer, I'm an editor.  I freelance for a local environmental consulting firm and an online fiction publisher, Musa.  I really enjoy editing.  I love being able to help other authors out, and I learn a lot in the process.

One of my interview questions I ask authors is what is their least favorite thing about writing, and I've noticed that a lot of them comment it's editing.  I can understand that.  It can be tedious and you have to read the same story over and over and over again.  And you always find mistakes.  It's never perfect.  It's an unending process.  That can be a little frustrating, but a story is never going to be perfect.  You have to get it to a point where it's good enough.

Personally, I really like editing, and not just because I'm an editor.  I like it because it means the hard part is over.  It means the story is on the page and ready to be fixed.  I enjoy going back to the beginning of the story after I know how it ends and making sure everything flows right, foreshadowing is in the right places, and the characters are consistent throughout.  I like knowing I'm one step closer to having the story finished.

Don't think that just because I'm an editor my stories don't need any work.  They do.  All stories do.  I enjoy having my work edited.  I enjoy working with an editor to get it into near-perfect shape.  I like learning new things.  So often I'm too close to a story to see my mistakes, and that's where an editor is invaluable.

Soon, I'm supposed to get edits back for The Appeal of Evil.  I can hardly wait.  It's one step closer to being released into the world!

The World Will Stop You

A couple weeks ago, my friend Tamara and I went to lunch.  As usual, we talked about the trials and tribulations of writing.  Our topic of conversation focused on how the world stands in your way--not passively, but actively.

The world could care less if you succeed or fail.  It will continue doing what it's doing for as long as it does it.  The only person that can change things is you.  Often, that's not easy.  We have to make choices in our lives, sacrifices to get what we want, and the world tries to stand in our way.

Both Tamara and I work 40 hours at a job that isn't writing.  We both have spouses and children.  Their are pets in our household.  We have other family close.  In essence, there are about a billion things that can draw our attention away from writing during the day, and it usually does.

Work
Laundry
Dinner
Getting kids ready for bed
Feeding the dog/cat
Grocery shopping
Spending quality time with the family
Illness

This is a very short list of the things that can get in the way.  Both Tamara and I really enjoy our writing and have had limited success with our work.  One day, we dream of having nothing else to do but write.  But how do you get there?  When the other pressures and responsibilities weigh down on you, how to find the time to do a "hobby"?  How do you justify it?  Do you have to?  Even when I make time on the weekends, my boys still need something from me.  The dog has to go outside.  I need to eat.  These distractions are active and persistent.  They refuse to be ignored.

When I want to write, I have to set boundaries.  I have to make a schedule.  I have other responsibilities, yes, but they can be put aside for a moment.  It's a good lesson in patience for the boys to a wait a few minutes while I finish a paragraph.  Same with the dog.  He has fine bladder control.  When the world actively works against you, shove it to the side.  The only way to achieve your goals and get things finished is to let some things slide.  Don't worry, they'll always be there waiting for you.
