As soon as Hailey Parrish discovered her husband was cheating with her co-worker, she swore off men. She had to find another job when her boss went to prison for being a pimp in his spare time. Three years later, Hailey still hadn’t gone on a date and she milks chinchilla for a living. Her life is about to get weirder.

While in pursuit of inter-dimensional miscreants who use their arcane powers to prey upon humans, Sebastian Kess was ambushed and mortally wounded. To save his life, he used his own magic to convert his soul to binary code and transfer it into Hailey’s soon-to-be shipped Kindle eBook reader. When Hailey inadvertently releases him and he inhabits her body, she finally has a man inside her, just not in the way she imagined.

Hailey must come to grips with the existence of the parallel dimension of Coursodon and the realization that magically inclined non-humans walk the world while dealing with Sebastian’s arrogant banter in her head.  Her predicament also introduces her to another supernatural, the handsome could-be-the-man-of-her-dreams Alex Sunderland.  The action moves from Hailey’s hometown of Tucson, Arizona to New England and across Europe as she and Alex try to return Sebastian to his own body while staying one step ahead of the criminals who want to keep him where he is.
Special Offers, the first book of the Coursodon Dimension Series, combines paranormal romance, urban fantasy, a bit of science fiction and a healthy dose of quirky humor.
Q) What inspired you to write this story?
I had just purchased my full-priced Kindle when I realized Amazon was selling less expensive versions that came with “special offers” (ads instead of the pretty drawings). For some reason, my warped brain thought it would be amusing if what made the cheaper Kindles special was that they came with some fiendish spirit. Originally, I imagined something like a havoc-wrecking poltergeist, but that quickly changed into the annoying, yet ingratiating, Sebastian.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
It took about six months of writing, mainly in the evenings and on weekends. Those pesky day jobs really get in the way sometimes.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Letting the story out of my head is very satisfying. As the characters’ personalities unfold, it is like developing a relationship with them.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
The hardest part is working through a block. It’s tough to write when you’re stuck, and I find that trying to power through doesn’t usually work well for me. I’m better off doing something else and coming back to it later. It’s also difficult to write on a restricted schedule. Sometimes I have great ideas, but I have to go to work instead of having a chance to write. I leave notes to myself constantly with snippets of dialogue or plot lines so I won’t forget. For some reason, I get lots of ideas while driving.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Wonder Woman. I really love the boots. And the lasso of truth isn’t too shabby either.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
I think there is a bottle of green olives from the Pleistocene. Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating. But they’ve been in there at least five years.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
The second book in the series — Special Rewards — was recently published and I am currently hard at work on the third.

I Kissed a Dog by Carol Van Atta

Like most authors, Carol Van Atta is no stranger to the written word. She penned a short novel at age 12 (somewhat frightening illustrations included, and lots of bunnies were involved), and had a creative writing piece published in her high school newspaper (about David Bowie's Diamond Dogs LP). Yes, she's an ex-80's chick.
Devouring books from numerous genres, Carol developed a deep thirst/hunger for more reading material, and could almost always be found with her nose in a book.
She has contributed to several popular inspirational anthologies and devotional books, and lives in the rainy wetland of Oregon with a terrifying teen (another in college) and a small zoo of animals. She is taking an undetermined hiatus away from inspirational writing to delve into her darker side. (Though you can check out her latest spiritual suspense novel, Soul Defenders). It is rumored that this genre-jumping occurred after Carol discovered too suspicious red marks on her neck, and experienced an unquenchable urge to howl at the moon.
Chloe Carpenter isn't like other women. She can communicate with animals. A gift she unwrapped following one of her frequent dances with death.
In her otherwise wacky life, she's finally found a semblance of sanity working at the Plum Beach Wildlife Park, where her unique talents can make life or death differences for the animals in her care. That semblance is shattered when a new veterinarian roars into the park in his spiffed up sports car and sets his golden gaze on her. If she had her way, he'd roar right back out.
Problem: He's her new coworker and he's saved her life twice - in the past twenty-four hours.
Zane Marshall, Enforcer for the Pacific Pack of purebred werewolves, has a job to do - figure out who or what is mutilating the young men of Plum Beach.
With orders to find the woman who talks to animals, he accepts a position working alongside the fiery Chloe Carpenter, a female who ignites his interest far more than he ever expected. Remarkably, she's the one elusive female with potential to bring meaning and passion to his empty existence.
Problem: She despises him.
Together, they're forced to unravel a mystery of supernatural proportions, a murderous mystery with eternal implications for everyone. In the process, they discover opposites really do attract.
Major Problem: Zane is pledged to another woman, and she'll do anything to keep him from Chloe.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
I wanted to write something that I’d enjoy reading. A story that had loads of fun, adventure, suspense, and a feisty heroine, who would find herself stretched beyond her limits, and an alpha male who made me swoon. I hope I accomplished what I set out to. I’d like to think that I did.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
About a year. I also work a fulltime “day job,” care for my mom, and single parent a teenage girl, AND have son in college. I’m busy to say the least. I’m sure most of your readers can relate!

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
The adventure! My characters seem to have their own ideas about what should happen, making the process a journey of revelations and shocking surprises.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
That I don’t do enough of it each day! Sometimes my busy life distracts me. I love the whole writing process once I am able to get to it.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Um … shoot. I’d like to be me as a famous author. Hey! Does that work? I’d love to have a larger reader platform. What author doesn’t want that? Right?

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Yikes! Some milk. Let’s just say it is past the deadline more than a few days. Icky!

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
Book two in the Werewolves of the West Series, She Kissed a Vampire, and a new book involving a gin, genie, and a whole lot of supernatural shenanigans. The title is Bottle Banished: Dreaming of Genie. The covers for both these books are incredible. At least I think so!

Thank you for having me.

I enjoy zombie stories and magic and I thought this was a wonderful way to incorporate my love for both.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
It took me several months to work on The Zombie Story (The Chronicles of Orlando).
Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Being able to connect, share my characters and my stories with readers and connecting with other authors.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
It would be time, not finding the time I would like to really sit and work on my writing or able to attend all of my writer meetings with my writing group.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Agatha Christie, the way she wrote her characters is inspirational.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Butter, lately I found that I don’t have the taste for it anymore.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
I’m currently working on book three in the Chronicles of Orlando called City of the Un-Dead and I also have an audio book version of The Zombie Story that will be available soon.

Winged by LM Pruitt‏

L.M. Pruitt has been reading and writing for as long as she can remember. A native of Florida with a love of New Orleans, she has the uncanny ability to find humor in most things and would probably kill a plastic plant. She knows this because she's killed bamboo. Twice. As a result, she's not allowed to walk in the gardening department of any store without supervision. She's also not allowed in the card aisle of any grocery store without an escort since she'll spend thirty minutes opening cards and laughing for no good reason. She is the author of the best-selling Jude Magdalyn series, the Moon Rising series, and the Frankie Post series. She continues to make her home in Florida in spite of the heat and mosquitos and shares her home with two cats--one of them smart, the other not so much.

I fell from the Talmadge Bridge the week before I turned thirty.

I was given a choice: Go to Heaven. Go back to my life in Savannah. Or spend eternity fighting evil under the direction of the archangels.

I chose the demons--and the angels.

I chose the Winged.
Q) What inspired you to write this story?
Quite a few things. The basic idea—a woman who fights demons and falls in love with angels—was something I kicked around for a while before adding in the other elements. I got to play with history, research, military technique, romance—pretty much all my favorite things.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
This is hard to determine because at first it was just a pet project. I promised myself I’d get around to it when I finished the other series I was working on. But eventually the story for Winged took all my focus and that’s when I shifted all my attention to it. The second book in the series, Uprising, took me about two and a half months, give or take. I’m hoping to finish the third, Lost, in about five weeks.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Research. I love digging up history and learning new things and then imparting that knowledge in a fun way.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Editing. Formatting runs a close second, but editing will always be the bane of my existence.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
I have no idea, lol. Maybe Molly Brown, from the Titanic? She always seemed like a lot of fun and she got to witness one of the biggest historical events in the last two centuries.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
If we’re talking actual meal, I have some homemade soup that’s about three weeks old. If we’re talking anything, it’s probably some type of condiment—and I have no idea how old it is, lol.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
The second book in the series, UPRISING, releases on April 9 and the third book, LOST, comes out June 11.

Wicked Lies by Karina Cooper

Born from the genetic mash-up of lesser royalty, storytellers, wanderers and dreamers, KARINA COOPER was destined to be a creative genius. As a child, she moved all over the country like some kind of waifish blonde gypsy and thrived in the new cultures her family settled in. When she (finally) grew up, she skipped the whole genius part and fell in love with writing because, really, who doesn’t love making things up for a living?
One part romance fanatic, one part total dork, and all imagination, she writes dark and sexy paranormal romance and urban fantasy. When she isn’t writing, Karina is an airship captain’s wife and Steampunk fashionista. Jonas Stone has been given his first independent operation: rescue the insurrection leader’s imprisoned grandson from the Mission. Getting the job done means more than getting Danny Granger out-it means staying with him while he heals. Staying too close, for way too long.
Danny is everything Jonas isn’t: confident, optimistic, honest--a man to be reckoned with. If only it didn’t mean going against everything Jonas has planned. He’s kept his secrets for years, hid behind a mask no one could see through...until now. Danny isn’t the kind of man Jonas deserves. But he might be exactly the man he needs...

Q) What inspired you to write this story?

To be perfectly honest, it was an article I read about how LGBTQ kids in the mid-west are suffering under a policy that gags teachers from addressing LGBT language—in any capacity. It basically went on to say that LGBT bullying—whether directed at a straight kid or otherwise—was at an all-time high, because teachers are threatened with suspension if they so much as breathe anything that promotes or acknowledges equality in the school room.

That means that if a kid is calling another kid “gay”, there’s no way to address it. What can they say? “Don’t do that” is met with “why?” and these kids are long past the age when “It’s not polite to call someone names,” actually matters. Kids need to be told why it’s hurtful, and what kind of damage slurs can do to a community, but teachers are muzzled. So kids get away with it. They persecute these kids to such a degree, that LGBTQ-related suicides are not uncommon.

That is no way to raise our children.

I decided that I wanted to reach out somehow, to let these kids know—however I could—that I was out here, and that I respect them. I support them. And that there are ways to get help; it does get better. To that end, I wrote an email to my editor and said, “Hey. I have this story I want to tell, and I don’t know if there’s a home for it, but it’s about Jonas Stone, and his struggle to find his shot at love. He’s gay, he’s struggled, and in the end, it’s going to get better for him.”

She wrote back almost immediately. “I love this idea.”

So, here I am, talking about Wicked Lies, and donating every cent I make to the It Gets Better Project. Because Jonas deserves his shot at happily ever after, and so do these kids.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
It took me two weeks to write it, given my pace, and another week to agonize over it. Wicked Lies came pretty quickly—I knew where I wanted to go, I just wasn’t sure how Danny would do in the setting. Turns out, he’s just as cheerful trapped in a room with a damaged man as he is anywhere.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Everything. I mean, sure, there’s issues inherent in every job, but come on: I tell lies for a living. I make up stories, I weave life into it. I love my job. I can set my own hours, work as hard as I want to, take risks. I’ve been super fortunate in the support I’ve found, and I owe so many people so much thanks—Avon’s cover artists, my editorial team, my agent, all of my readers, everyone.

I wouldn’t trade this job for anything. I’m living my dream.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
The long, hard days when I’m overwhelmed by work—when I’m working on a deadline and a copyedit just came in, there’s cover copy waiting to be edited and blogs to write. When there aren’t enough hours in the day and I’m showing signs of Repetitive Stress Injury.

But you know? I still wouldn’t trade it.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Do you know? I thought about this for a while, and I can’t think of a single person I’d want to be for a day. Can you imagine the hassle they have to put up with? No, thank you! I’ll stick with my currently non-famous self and revisit after ten years.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
I have this bag of frozen meatballs in my freezer. It’s been there for two years. I keep meaning to throw it out, and instead, I just keep piling stuff on top of it. I’m thinking, maybe one day, I can create an ice bag out of the solid block of meatballness. When it turns to mush, it’ll conform really nicely around whatever limb I’ve wounded next.

That totally could work, right?

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
More Dark Mission! The last, actually. One for the Wicked wraps up the final confrontation between good and evil in the city of New Seattle, and we’ll get to see how Jonas and Danny work out their differences.

Afterwards, we’ll be seeing more from Cherry St. Croix, including another charity novella!

Thanks so much for having me, I’m so glad I got to stay a while. May you have many hours of fabulous reading!

Return by Charity Santiago

In February 2011, Charity Santiago's 7-month-old son was admitted to the hospital with severe respiratory issues. While Charity stayed at his bedside, she kept them both entertained by downloading several books on her new Kindle and reading them out loud. It was during this time that Charity learned about Kindle's self-publishing program, and realized that she had an opportunity to share her writings with the world.

Charity is a native of southeastern Arizona, and a writer since childhood. She wrote her first manuscript, Guinea Pig Code, at age nine. When she’s not writing books, Charity spends her time reading on her Kindle, wrangling children, watching Sylvester Stallone movies and pursuing a degree in Education.

For the last three years, eighteen-year-old Ashlyn Li has been running from her destiny. A free-spirited ninja, Ashlyn would rather loot an abandoned city or challenge a fiend to battle than assume leadership of Toryn, her father's kingdom. However, when a series of attacks reunites Ashlyn with the friends who helped her save the sun three years ago, she discovers that her kingdom is at war and her father has presumed her dead.

Suddenly Ashlyn is faced with not only fulfilling her birthright, but also making sense of her feelings towards two very different men- Drake Lockhart, the enigmatic vampire who captured her heart three years ago, and Vargo, the charismatic assassin who was once Ashlyn's sworn enemy.

Will Ashlyn ascend the pagoda and become Lady of Toryn?
Q) What inspired you to write this story?
I got stuck outside in the rain one day while I was filling up my horse’s water bucket, and completely out of the blue, this image popped into my head of a girl riding her horse through the rain. I liked the sense of isolation that I saw within her, and my next thought was, “Well, why is she isolated?” I thought it would be fun to write the story of a prodigal daughter, a girl who left her family and friends, but returns and tries to make amends.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
I actually started writing the story more than ten years ago, but it sat untouched for several years until I decided to drag it out, do some revisions, and give the characters an ending. I estimate that it probably took 250 to 300 hours of writing for “Return.” I’m not a fast writer. Sometimes I hear about these authors who crank out a book in twenty days. That is so not me!

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
I like that I can lose myself in a fictional world. Writing is a lot like reading, except that you control what happens in the story. With real life being so unpredictable, writing gives me a chance to escape into my fantasies.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
I hate editing with the fire of a thousand suns. I really do. As I mentioned, I’m not the fastest writer in the world, and by the time I finally finish writing a book, I am just done with it. I don’t ever want to see it again, much less read through it and check for typos and continuity errors. My editor and I have found a way to kind of get around that- he edits the book as I write it so that we can get most of the work done before I complete the manuscript and have my big “That’s it! No more!” tantrum.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Oh…that’s a tough one. I’ve never thought about it. I’m a big fan of Sylvester Stallone, and I often wonder where he gets his writing ideas. I guess I wouldn’t mind getting inside his head for a day.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Frosting. Every December, my husband and I host our annual Christmas Cookie Party, and we always buy way too much red and green frosting, and then we never use it. (We’re not big on cookies except around Christmas.) It always sits in our fridge for months before I get fed up and throw it away. So I’m pretty sure the frosting sitting in my fridge right now is almost four months old. I know it’s gross. Don’t judge me!

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
I’m finally finished with the Lady of Toryn trilogy, of which “Return” is the first installment, and I’m currently writing a paranormal romance called “Blood Lust,” which is coming out April 12th. This summer I’ll be going back to the fantasy world that I started in “Return,” but focusing on different characters.

When Brynne left Alaska, she promised herself she would never go back.

The day after graduation, she got in her beat-up Honda Civic and drove down the west coast to pursue her dream of becoming a Hollywood makeup artist. Growing up in a rural fishing village with dirty, rundown buildings, and dirty, rundown men, she longed for the glitz and glamour of the silver screen. She had no qualms about leaving behind her dysfunctional family and her nowhere-job at her mother's fishing tackle shop. She didn't even think twice about leaving behind the cute boy who came in to buy gear almost every day, shamelessly flirting with her and always leaving a generous tip. Well, maybe she thought about it twice; but she knew that a relationship with Callder Murphy would only be bound to lead her deeper into nowhere. She was sick and tired of being nowhere—and no one.

Brynne set out, determined to prove to the world that she was much more than just a fisherman’s daughter. Unfortunately, her luck and tip money ran out in Seattle when her car broke down. Exhausted from the stress of travel, she decided to take a waitressing job in the city for the time being. “For the time being” ended up being far longer than she would have liked. That was four years ago. Now, a call from home has alerted Brynne to some bad news. She needs to get back to Soldotna promptly, but she has been living paycheck to paycheck and can’t even afford a plane ticket home. Enter a ghost from her past as her knight in shining armor. Unexpectedly showing up outside her restaurant in a red Ferrari, Callder is determined to take her home with him, and keep her there for good.

Perpetually drunken playboy, Callder Murphy, is currently loaded. Of course, that’s only because he stole his big brother’s credit card. He was off in Vegas, doing what he does best (absolutely nothing) when he received the call from home. A name he hasn’t heard in years pulls him out of his mindless haze of stumbling from one wild party to the next: Brynne Ambrose needs his help. Pleasant memories of the rude, tomboyish, and completely adorable girl-next-door come rushing back to him with a vengeance. He drops all of his shenanigans and cleans up his act instantaneously. He uses his brother’s credit card to buy an impressive car, and sets out to win over the girl of his dreams. He knows he’s no good for her, but he can’t stay away.

Callder has been waiting his whole life for the opportunity to be her man, and he’s not going to let her slip away again.

Playing the Maestro by Aubrie Dionne‏

Aubrie grew up watching the original Star Wars movies over and over until she could recite and reenact every single scene in her backyard. She also loved The Goonies, Star Trek the Next Generation--favorite character was Data by far--and Indiana Jones. But, her all time favorite movie was The Last Unicorn. She still wonders why the unicorn decided to change back to a unicorn in the end.

Aubrie wrote in her junior high yearbook that she wanted to be "a concert flutist" when she grew up. She majored in flute performance at the University of New Hampshire on a full scholarship, then secured two teaching jobs at a University and a local community music school. While playing in orchestras and teaching, stories popped into her head, and she used them to make the music come alive for her flute students. Her students said they were so good, she had to write them down! Maybe they were right, who knows? Two careers seems to keep her busy. For now.

She is represented by Dawn Dowdle and writes sweet and adventurous fantasy, science fiction, and contemporary romance.

A half breed immortal. An international manhunt. A race against time to stop a terrifying plot that threatens to kill millions. The gripping, action-packed debut novel by AD Starrling and the first in the supernatural thriller series Seventeen.

‘My name is Lucas Soul.
Today, I died again.
This is my fifteenth death in the last four hundred and fifty years.’

The Crovirs and the Bastians. Two races of immortals who have lived side by side with humans for millennia and been engaged in a bloody war since the very dawn of their existence. With the capacity to survive up to sixteen deaths, it was not until the late fourteenth century that they reached an uneasy truce, following a deadly plague that wiped out more than half of their numbers and made the majority of survivors infertile.

Soul is an outcast of both immortal societies. Born of a Bastian mother and a Crovir father, a half breed whose very existence is abhorred by the two races, he spends the first three hundred and fifty years of his life being chased and killed by the Hunters.

One fall night in Boston, the Hunt starts again, resulting in Soul’s fifteenth death and triggering a chain of events that sends him on the run with Reid Hasley, a former US Marine and his human business partner of ten years. When a lead takes them to Washington DC and a biotechnology company with affiliations to the Crovirs, they cross the Atlantic to Europe, on the trail of a French scientist whose research seems intrinsically linked to the reason why the Hunters are after Soul again.

From Paris to Prague, their search for answers will lead them deep into the immortal societies and bring them face to face with someone from Soul’s past. Shocking secrets are uncovered and fresh allies come to the fore as they attempt to put a stop to a new and terrifying threat to both immortals and humans.

Time is running out for Soul. Can he get to the truth before his seventeenth death, protect the ones he loves and prevent another immortal war?

Q) What inspired you to write this story?

An image of the number 17 written in dripping red paint on a black marker stone standing on a sandbank in the middle of a tropical lagoon in Mauritius. I wanted to write a short story to submit to the British Fantasy Society Short Story Competition a few years ago. After deliberating on several ideas, I decided to write about a man who could die seventeen times. Lucas Soul was born and his story became Soul Meaning.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
It took a year to write the first draft while working almost part time. If I wrote full time, it would have taken me six months to do the first draft. Rewrites took another six months.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Finishing a scene and realizing that the story has taken on a life of its own, and guided you to places you never thought it would go.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Edits and rewrites. They can be soul destroying, pun unintended! It takes a lot of patience to work through the words that you’ve read a dozen times before. But they need to be done to polish the story.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
In medicine, Gregor Mendel. Because he established the laws of inheritance that would form the basis of modern genetics. His work was one of the reasons I loved biology and became fascinated with biotechnology and genetic engineering.

In writing, Neil Gaiman. The man is a wonderful human being, a great storyteller, and a true inspiration for other writers.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Hmm. Apparently, it’s an unopened jar of strawberry jam. It’s a year old. It looks suspiciously edible.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
The next books in the series Seventeen. King’s Crusade, the second novel, will be out in May this year. An epic, dark fantasy trilogy that has been at the back of my head for a few years. A sci-fi/steampunk YA novel. Possibly a humorous fantasy series.

After her clique's bullying causes a classmate's suicide, Kat Grey trades the vicious world of the California "in crowd" for the chance to become a better person in Massachusetts. But when she steps in to protect a classmate from being bullied, Kat sparks a war with Hannah, Milton Academy's resident Queen Bee.

Kat's courage and compassion attract the attention of Blaze Ward, Hannah's ex-boyfriend. As they fall in love, Kat discovers that Blaze is more than the boy next door. He's a warlock. He is also the leader of an in-crowd like no other - the Brotherhood, five young warlocks charged with defending witches and humanity from a demonic adversary named Seth.

Kat challenges Blaze to become a better man and leader while he helps her find redemption as she makes it her mission to stop bullying at Milton. But when Hannah teams up with Seth to destroy her, Kat becomes a hostage in the age-old war between the Brotherhood and their greatest enemy. Saving Kat will require more than Blaze's strength and skill; it will mean breaking one of his kind's most sacred laws. Blaze will have to make a choice: his honor or Kat's life.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
Witches and magic are definitely cool, but I also had something to say. This novel allowed me to make a statement about the destructive nature of bullying and its far-reaching consequences. We all need to be cognizant of the power our words and actions have on others. It’s an issue that just about all young adults face, and I also wanted to offer some guidance on dealing with it, as someone who has experienced bullying and come out much, much tougher. Being bullied is an awful thing to go through, but it’s true what they say – it does get better.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
All in, it took about a year. I spent three months planning it, four months writing, and another three editing and rewriting.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
I would definitely say developing characters. They become so real to me, and I spend all of my time thinking about them. I love immersing myself in my characters’ heads: exploring their pasts, their motivations, their likes and dislikes. I have notebooks full of nothing but tidbits about my characters. Not all of it makes it into the books, but it definitely informs my writing.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Editing. Without a doubt. It’s absolutely necessary, but I still don’t like doing it.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Jennifer Lawrence. One, I love how ballsy, authentic, and self-deprecating she is. Two, I’d want to know what it’s like to win an Oscar. And three, she gets to snuggle with Liam Hemsworth for The Hunger Games.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
I just threw it away, but it was a jar of salsa con queso. It’d been in there for about two months. Disgusting.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
I’m working on Book Two as we speak – it will focus on Cody Quintana. I’m shooting for it to be available early next year. In all, I’m planning five books to be in The Coven series, each one focusing on a different member of the Brotherhood.

Thanks for inviting me, Pembroke. I’ve enjoy reading other writers’ interviews, and am thrilled to be included in such good company.

What inspired you to write this story?
Twelve Nights is my third published erotic romance novel. The first two are strongly character based, and I felt confident about creating believable people. I wanted to challenge myself to create a more intricate, multi-layered plot. About the same time, I came across the movie Ten Things I Hate About You (a modern retelling of Taming of the Shrew with the amazing Heath Ledger). I thought, why not embrace plotting with the master himself, Shakespeare? Three intertwined love stories, multiple mistaken identities, bawdy comedy, lots of opportunities for sex—erotic romance to the max!

How long did it take you to write?
As a self-confessed binge writer, I sometimes go months without writing a novel. Then one comes into my consciousness and bam! Twelve Nights took about a month for the first draft. Then I spent several months editing, in between other projects. I like to let the manuscript percolate in peace for awhile, so I can come at it with fresh eyes.

What is your favorite thing about writing?
I love world-building. Even if a novel is set in contemporary times, the writer builds a unique universe that the characters inhabit. I engage in the world and the characters so much, they feel closer than the ‘real’ people around me physically! This may explain why I’m a binge writer. You can’t opt out of everyday life for too long, and that’s what happens when I’m writing a novel.

What is your least favorite thing about writing?
The whole business side can be fun, like meeting and talking to readers. But overall, it’s the aspect of writing that I like the least. I wish sometimes that we could just mainline the words to the readers. The Internet helps a lot with that!

If you could be any person for one day, who would you be and why?
Hmmm... you’ve got me thinking. Okay, I’ll pick the Dalai Lama. Maybe if I could be inside his skin for one day, I’d absorb his capacity to accomplish enormous practical achievements and at the same time stay spiritually centered. Plus his sense of humor would be amazing to inhabit. A whole day laughing would be awesome!

What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Had to go look. There’s a bottle of Bufalo Salsa Clasica that’s been around awhile. I love the taste, but not all the time. It has to be there for occasional cravings, but doesn’t get used up quickly.

What can readers expect from you in the future?
My erotic romance Beauty of the Beast is coming out in April, and I’m doing a full-on blog tour for the whole month. As a young reporter in 1950’s Texas, Mary Jane isn’t sure what SM is, but she hears that it’s going on just outside Austin, and she’s determined to investigate. She’s what people in Texas call a pistol! You never know what Mary Jane is going to say or do next.

Thanks for inviting me to visit your blog, Pembroke! And thank you to the readers for sharing a few minutes of your day with me. Hugs to all!
